Abstract

This study aims to examine the importance of information literacy education amidst today's rapidly evolving technology. It was found that people who understand information literacy are less easily swayed or victimized by fake news. They know when and for what purpose they need information, thus avoiding becoming victims of an onslaught of unverified information. In the context of a democratic society, the essence of critical literacy can be formulated into five key skills: understanding, engaging with, using, analyzing, and transforming text. These five aspects reflect that literacy is no longer limited to reading and writing skills but encompasses broader competencies in critically processing and interpreting information. This study utilized library research and a literature review of existing materials. Various materials, both from journals and books, were analyzed to obtain a clear understanding of the importance of information literacy education.
